Privacy policy
How we collect, use and protect your personal information, in plain English.
1. Who we are

For anything about your personal information, email info@selectivesearch.co.uk.
2. Information we collect
When you buy from us: your name, business name, email address, billing address, VAT number if you give one, what you bought and your download history.
When you ask for something: the details you enter in our forms. For a free Website Check, that is your name, email address, website, what you sell and your area. For a free Sample Brief, that is your name, email address, company, website and the market you sell into. If you book a call, we receive your name, email address, the time you chose and any notes you add.
When you contact us: the content of your emails and messages, including WhatsApp messages to our business number.
Business contacts: the name, job title, organisation and work contact details of people at businesses we work with or may work with, and records of our dealings.
When you visit the website: information about how the site is used, collected through cookies only if you agree (see section 12).
We do not ask for, and do not want, special category information such as health, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. If you send it to us, we will not use it and will delete it.
3. How we use it, and our lawful basis
- To supply what you bought, give you access to downloads and provide support. Lawful basis: contract.
- To deliver what you asked for, such as a Website Check, a Sample Brief or a call. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, in responding to your request.
- To keep accounts and meet tax and legal duties. Lawful basis: legal obligation.
- To tell you about relevant products and services. Customers: legitimate interests, with a clear way to opt out in every message. Others: only with your consent, or at your work email address where the law allows for business contacts. You can opt out at any time.
- To understand and improve the website through analytics and advertising measurement. Lawful basis: your consent, given through the cookie banner.
- To protect our business and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
4. AI and automation
Some of our services use automated workflows and artificial intelligence. For example, when you request a Website Check, your website address and the details you give us are processed by our workflow automation provider and an AI model provider to research public search data and prepare a draft report.
- A person at Selective reviews every report or response before it is sent to you.
- We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.
- Our AI model provider processes data under business terms that do not allow it to use your information to train its models.
- We use the minimum information needed for the task.
5. When we run AI agents for your business
If you engage us for AI Agents as a Service, our agents may process personal information that belongs to your business, such as your contacts, prospects or emails. In that case your business is the data controller and we act as your data processor, only on your documented instructions and under a written data processing agreement that forms part of our contract with you. You are responsible for having a lawful basis for that data and for how your business uses the agents' outputs. Agents start in draft-for-approval mode, so a person in your business reviews what they produce before it is used.
If you buy an AI Starter Kit or the AI Agent Website Growth Manager, the agent runs in your own accounts. We do not see or receive the data it processes, and your business is the controller of that data.
6. Who we share it with
We never sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Payment provider: Revolut processes card and Revolut Pay payments. We never see or store your full card details.
- Service providers who run our business systems on our behalf: website hosting, Microsoft (email, calendar and booking), our workflow automation provider, our AI model provider, a secure messaging service we use for internal alerts, and our customer records system. They may use your information only to provide their services to us.
- Google Analytics and Google advertising measurement, only if you agree through the cookie banner.
- Professional advisers, regulators and authorities, where the law requires it or to deal with legal claims.
- A buyer or successor of all or part of our business, who would be bound by this policy.
7. International transfers
Some of our service providers are based outside the UK, including in the European Economic Area and the United States. Where your information leaves the UK, we make sure it is protected by an adequacy decision (such as the EU adequacy regulations or the UK-US data bridge), the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or another lawful safeguard.
8. How long we keep it
- Orders, invoices and accounting records: 6 years after the end of the financial year, as required for tax.
- Website Check, Sample Brief and other enquiries: 24 months from our last meaningful contact, unless you become a customer.
- Client and business contact records: for the relationship, then 6 years.
- Marketing preferences: until you opt out, then a suppression record so we do not contact you again.
- Analytics data: up to 14 months in Google Analytics.
9. How we protect it
Access is limited to the people who run the business. Our systems use strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, and we use established providers with their own security certifications. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you and the ICO about a serious breach where the law requires.
10. Your rights
You have the right to:
- access a copy of your personal information, free of charge
- have it corrected if it is wrong
- have it deleted
- restrict or object to how we use it, including for marketing
- receive it in a portable format
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent
Email info@selectivesearch.co.uk. We will reply within one month. We may need to confirm your identity first.
11. Children
Our products and services are for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
12. Cookies and website tracking
Essential cookies always run. They keep the site secure, make the basket and checkout work, and remember your cookie choice.
Analytics and advertising measurement run only if you choose "Accept all". We use Google Analytics to understand which pages help visitors, and Google's measurement tools to see whether our advertising works. These set cookies such as _ga, kept for up to 2 years. We do not send your name, email address or form contents to Google, and we do not use personalised advertising.
You can change your choice at any time: You can also delete cookies in your browser. Changing your mind stops future tracking; it does not undo past measurement.
13. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first at info@selectivesearch.co.uk so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
14. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, and show the latest date at the top.
